In an interview with CBS 60 Minutes that aired on Sunday, President Joe Biden said the U.S. military would defend Taiwan if it were invaded by China.
When asked if the US would send troops to defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack, Biden said yes.
Biden said the U.S. doesn't encourage Taiwan to seek independence but that Taiwan makes their own decisions.
An official from the White House said Washington's policy on Taiwan hasn't changed.
The Covid-19 epidemic was declared over by Biden during the interview, despite the fact that 400 Americans still die from it every day.
The president acknowledged that the U.S. has a problem with Covid and that his administration is still working on it.
Biden said that his predecessor's actions were "irresponsible" and that he had not been briefed about the seized documents.
Biden said it was too early to make a decision on whether or not he would run again.
Biden warned Putin against using nuclear weapons in the interview that aired last week. Biden told Putin not to use chemical or nuclear weapons. It's not a good idea. It's not a good idea. You will change the face of war in a big way. The president said that Russia was defeated on the battlefield.
The White House says Biden's claims are not official U.S. policy.
Biden said that Trump was irresponsible over the Mar-a-Lago documents.
