• New information about Google's upcoming Tensor G2 chipset has leaked online.
  • The leak comes from an alleged benchmark result run on a Pixel 7 Pro test unit.
  • The leak hints at improvements to the GPU rather than the CPU from the predecessor.

The next-gen chipset that will power the upcomingPixel 7 series was teased early this month. The name of the chip was called the Tensor G2.

Ahead of the Pixel 7 launch, new information on the alleged Tensor G2 has come to light. The new chip will use the same processor as the original one.

An alleged internal spec leak has been found. A device that ran a Geekbench test has more information on the next Tensor chip. The information on the new chip is broken down in a series of twits.

The benchmark test shows that the Tensor G2 has two Core X1, two Core A 76, and four Core A 55 cores. There is a noticeable difference in the frequencies of the cores. The frequencies of the X1 and X2 are increased from 50 MHz to 2.85 GHz. The A 76 core has seen a boost from 100 to 2.35 GHz.

The Geekbench test shows a small increase in multi-core performance. According to Wojciechowski, the next-gen chipset will handle better due to the performance of the Cortex X1 core. The improved 4L PE process brings more thermal headroom and efficiency to run at higher frequencies.

The new Tensor G2 is being replaced by a new version of the Mali-G 78. We can expect 20% performance improvement, 20% power reduction, and 35% increase in Machine Learning tasks, on top of the 20% performance improvement, 20% power reduction, and 15% increase in Machine Learning tasks we already know.

As Wojciechowski says, the gains in the performance of cameras in phones powered by the Tensor processor are due to the increase in the graphics processing unit.

The analysis is based on the Geekbench test and can still be spoofed, according to the tip. It is a good idea to take all this information with a grain of salt.

The benchmark test is still legit according to the person who tipped it off. That's because the build featured in the test appeared unusual or it could be a semi-custom build. The build ID is unique as well.

Enhancements to the Tensor G2 are expected. Improvements to video coding follow.

The third generation of the Tensor G2 is already in the works and is being manufactured by the same company as the second generation.

Since the Korean tech giant is making the chip, we can see improvements. There is a new modem on the system.

It will be interesting to see if the new Tensor G2 will be a contender for the best phones in the market.
