You might have guessed something was up if you hadn't known that the game was called "El derbi Madrileo"

There is a report on the LaLIGA table.

A tense, chippy affair ended in a 2-1 win for Real Madrid, who remain perfect in LaLiga this season.

Goals from Rodrygo and Federico Valverde put Real Madrid ahead early, and a red card for Mario Hermoso didn't help the hosts in the end.

Alex is analyzing from Madrid.

Player ratings, best and worst performers, highlights and notable moments, post- match quotes, and key statistics are included.

Rapid Reaction

This is the first thing. They are Madrid's future.

This season feels like the beginning of a new era at Real Madrid, with Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Fede Valverde as the team's new stars.

It's a process that began last year and is now inescapable. One or more of Rodrygo, Vinicius and Valverde have scored in each of Madrid's last seven games -- Rodrygo's opener made it three league games scoring in a row for him -- and that sums up this fast, direct, clinical Madrid team.

Luka Modric and the rest of the team are still very much present, even though Luka Modric and the rest of the team lost to Atlante. It was all about Madrid's front three.

It was Rodrygo who opened the scoring, firing Aurelien Tchouameni's floated pass past Jan Oblak, and when Vinicius' low shot hit the post and rebounded across goal, Valverde was there to make it 2-0 There were two moments of quality that made the difference.

There are two Racist chants demand action from the football team.

The video of a group of fans singing a racist chant at Vinicius before the game was sickening and sad, but nothing new.

The Frente Atletico, the hardcore group of ultras, have been guilty of such incidents many times before, but the club have failed to take decisive action. If those responsible can be identified, it will stop, but until that happens, it will happen.

Vinicius' response to racist criticism of his goal celebrations was eloquent and perfect and he was able to respond on the pitch. When Rodrygo scored, Vinicius was first to join him in what seemed like a very deliberate dance on the touchline, and he was then the catalyst for Real Madrid's second goal.

Vinicius Junior posted a photo of his celebration with Rodrygo along with the caption "dance wherever you want." You should keep dancing.

There are three. His first start ended in a loss.

It had become a joke that by the 62nd, or the 63rd, or the 64th minute, the super-sub who coach Diego Simeone loves, but couldn't start, came.

This was much more than just a game. The derby was in Madrid. He got off to a good start. It was Griezmann who was the most active player in the first half, dropping deep to get involved in play.

When the time came for Simeone to make changes in the second half, he chose to keep on with his team. He will be on the bench next time.

Fede Valverde is the best.

Another goal is being achieved. Get better and better. Right now, he's the most in-form in the middle of the field.

Felipe was the worst of the lot.

It looks like the weakest link in the defense.

Rodrygo found the opening goal after a perfectly weighted ball from Aurelien Tchouameni.

He danced with Vinicius Junior, who has had to deal with racist attacks over his own dance celebrations.

Real Madrid led 2-0 after that.

After Mario Hermoso pulled one back, it only did so much as he was sent off for a second time.

After the match: What the players and managers said

Carlo Ancelotti said that he was too conservative after the two goals. I think that's correct. We played from the back in the first half and scored two goals. We were in control of the things. We didn't want to hurt them in the second half. We were in control of the game but at the end we lost. They caused problems by pushing.

Diego Simeone said that he couldn't criticize the players. They gave everything even though they made mistakes. Madrid has a good style. Their transitions from defence to attack are swift. I think it's nice. They take their chances and are organised in defense. The job was done well by the coach. They have players who are 888-609- 888-609- 888-609- 888-609- 888-609- There are two people with the talent of Modric and Kroos. We were always in the game.

"We're very happy," Carvajal said. We wanted to win. We took our two chances and played a good first half. We had less of the ball in the second half. At 2-0, we were comfortable. It became more complicated at the end.

It leaves a bad taste. We've lost a big game. We didn't deserve the defeat but they took their chances and we didn't. When you lose, you feel bad. All of us are sad.
