The Team of the Week will be given to you by the pundit at the end of the week.
This time, who has he chosen? Pick your own team after taking a gander. He will have his say on the game's big talking points.
Ramsdale is a player for the football team.
It's not easy for a team to find a number one goalkeeper, and they haven't found one like David Seaman. It seems as if they have found a keeper who meshes well with Mikel Arteta's team. The keeper was prepared to do what was necessary. He did a great job of spreading himself in one-v-one situations against the Bees. Bob Wilson was a great team player and he is similar to him. The time at the top of the table might not be as short-lived if Ramsdale can handle the big pressure moments as Wilson did.
The man in Man City is John Stones.
The defender from Manchester City hit the ball very well. John Stones should be in the starting line-up for England if the finish for Jude Bellingham is any indication of why he should be. In the game against Wolves at the weekend, Stones looked as competent as any defender on the pitch. This is proof of the player's confidence when they score top-class goals against top-class opponents.
The man is from Man City.
He didn't make any mistakes during the match. He was so effective against Wolves that I wanted to know why I hadn't seen him before. A Switzerland international with a Nigerian name. Nathan Collins was more composed than Akanji. Jack Grealish was dropped by the Wolves defender with a flying karate kick to the midsection. Collins was dismissed by the referee without a thought. It looks like we may see more of Akanji this season.
William Saliba is a player for the football team.
Ivan Toney was considering his recent selection for the England team and I was expecting a bit more from Brentford. Both Toney and Brentford had to contend with William Saliba, who looked very dangerous in the penalty area and as solid as a rock. If Toney is going to be taken seriously as a starter for the national team, he's going to have to make life difficult for defenders like Saliba. The Frenchman went for a walk in the park. It is not always about scoring goals for strikers.
Jack Grealish works for Man City.
Jack Grealish admitted that the criticism he's received about his lack of goals and assists since he arrived at Manchester City was fair. The Englishman had his best performance since leaving Villa Park. It wasn't just his willingness to get in the six-yard box where it hurts that was impressive, but his link-up play with Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland was telling, a further indication he's no longer intimidated by his surroundings.
De Bruyne is from Man City.
Wolves were powerless to stop Manchester City from taking all the points. There were three goals for City and two for De Bruyne. The pass for Phil Foden's goal was simply irresistible and the ball into the box for Grealish was just sensational. It's getting to a point where you're starting to wonder how De Bruyne is able to consistently produce such high quality. So far this season, five assists have been given. I think De Bruyne will get more assists than Haaland.
Joao Palhinha is a football player forFulham.
The goal was amazing and the victory was great. The performance of the side under Marco Silva is very different from the one under ScottParker. Silva's team took the game to the opposition and took risks and that's exactly what they did against Forest. I feel a bit of fatalism with each post- match interview given by Steve Cooper and that the task ahead might be too large. The owners brought players to the club in August when they should have been there in July. After the World Cup in November, Cooper needs to build a team in September and October to be ready for the start of the season.
Granit Xhaka is a player for the football team.
I'm not a fan of Granit Xhaka. I find him annoying. He is a very good player. Years ago, he should have left. For some reason, he has stayed at the club and occasionally wears the captain's armband, such is his popularity today. He looked great against Brentford and so did the other team. I would like to know why Brentford didn't watch the game, but I'm pretty sure that even if they had they wouldn't have made a difference. It's most worrisome.
Gabriel Jesus is a player for the football team.
Gabriel Jesus has been playing like a man possessed since he first donned a shirt. He is a big fan of the game. He's leading the line even though he's scored goals. His movement around the pitch is fantastic and he plays the game with an infectious arrogance that is spreading through the team and the reason why they are top of the league. Jesus generated enough power on a beautifully flighted ball from Xhaka to beat David Raya in the goal and show just how fit and strong he is. I don't understand why Brazil didn't pick him for their national team during the break.
Man City is home to Erling Haaland.
His touches seem to go into the back of the net. His goal against Wolves at the weekend was a mishit, and much was made of his finish against Dortmund in midweek; some even dared to compare it to the goal he scored against Brazil 38 years ago. It was not in the same class as the other one. In Manchester City's quest to lift the elusive European title, Haaland's scruffy lunge in a desperate attempt to make contact with the ball was crucial. It was a brilliantly controlled side-foot volley as the player remained upright and suspended in the air. Some are better than others.
Heung-min is from Spurs.
He waited a long time for a goal and then scored three in 14 minutes. The reality was that the South Korea international was out of favor with the Spurs. Two fingers up to the manager, that's how to regain your confidence. He brought Son on after 59 minutes in hopes that the player would seal the game for Spurs, and that's exactly what he did. Spurs now have options with Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and IvanPerisic available, and Son will have to fight for his place, but this win for Spurs sets up the north London derby beautifully. Brendan Rodgers won't be able to see the international break out.
It doesn't feel right to resume the season after a short delay without first acknowledging why they were stopped in the first place. There was a lot of discussion about the rights and wrongs of postponing the weekend's games. When a young Queen ascended the throne, some of those comments were made by people who didn't even know what they were talking about. The national sport was put on hold in order to respect the Royal Family and the death of the monarch.
Test cricket, a sport that is less likely to stir up feelings or cause offence, paid a very moving tribute to the Queen having stopped their activities for 24 hours. There were reasons for football to stand down and create a space for quiet reflection and families to offer their sympathies. People congregated in the streets of Edinburgh and London to catch a glimpse of the cortege as it passed by. Or just remember the moment Bobby Moore received the World Cup trophy. The game knows how to doff its hat to its longest-serving monarch. It is possible that we will resume hostilities over managerial firings and incompetence. It was a small price to pay for a man who gave 70 years of perfect service to his country.
