Some within the organization believe they may be better suited for a Super Bowl run now that Jimmy Garoppolo is under center, despite the fact that the 49ers lost their starting quarterback to a broken ankle.

The 49ers are a better team right now with Garoppolo at quarterback than they were with Lance, according to several players and coaches in the wake of Sunday's game.

Silver was told by two sources that he could say it.

When the 49ers decided to keep Garoppolo, there would be a point this season when some wondered if he should be the starter.

He is 33-14 as a starter in his career and led the team to the playoffs last season and the Super Bowl in the previous year.

There were plenty of Lance struggles in the season opening loss to the Bears, and the questions about Garoppolo would follow.

A serious injury to Lance isn't how anyone would want to get to the point that Garoppolo was back as the quarterback.

The silver lining is that it is difficult to find a better insurance policy than a signal-caller who knows the system. Garoppolo has mostly done nothing but win with his supporting cast.

He ran for a score and went 13-of-21 for 154 yards and one touchdown. It was a Garoppolo-like performance where he did enough to put his team in a good position to win.

The formula has worked for the 49ers in the past, and some believe it will work for the rest of the year as well.
