Nick Chubb's touchdown that shouldn't have been was one of the reasons why the New York Jets pulled off one of the most unlikely wins in recent football history.
The Jets became the first team in 21 years to come back from a 13-point deficit in the final two minutes to win a game when they scored two fourth quarter touchdown. In 2001, the Bears did it against the Indians.
The Jets locker room agreed that the miracle comeback was crazy.
"I don't know where it ranks, but it's up there," said quarterback Joe Flacco, a 15-year veteran who threw four touchdown.
Since 2002, teams have lost 2,229 games when trailing by at least 13 points in the final two minutes.
It was a total disaster for the Browns, who had a chance to be 2-0 for the first time in 20 years. The packed house went crazy when Chubb scored his third and final touchdown, a 12 yard run, with 1:45 left. He should have stopped in the middle of the field. If he had done that, the Jets would have been out of time.
The Jets said they were shocked by Chubb's mistake. TheClevelandBrowns were defeated. The coach took the blame.
It's on me to communicate that to the huddle. We did that before." We need to finish that game out.
Chubb didn't talk to reporters.
D.J. Reed was upset with himself because he missed the tackle on Chubb.
"I've never been happier for a missed tackle than I am right now," he added. Our only chance was that.
The Browns made a lot of mistakes. The kicker missed the extra point and the secondary made a huge coverage gaffe. There was a 66-yard touchdown pass that was left open by the team.
"When I threw it, I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, nobody is even near him,'" said Flacco, who completed 26 of 44 passes for 301 yards and four touchdown.
The kind of plays that are being made are not acceptable. There is no doubt. It is difficult. We didn't keep up on defense. The team let up in the eleventh hour.
The more disappointing thing was that the fans booed at the end. It wasn't the best end to have.
The onside kick was recovered by the Jets. A sidewinder that was difficult to handle was kicked by the punter. The Jets were the first to pounce on it.
The onsides kick have been rare. There was no doubt that we were going to score once we got the ball.
The Jets took over at their 47 yard line. A third-and-10) and a 15-yard touchdown strike to Wilson gave the Ravens a 17-13 lead with 25 seconds remaining. It was a great day for the former Ohio State star, who caught eight passes and scored two times.
They were playing so soft that I was throwing the ball.
Wilson had dropped a third-down pass earlier in the quarter. When the onside kick was recovered, he started celebrating.
He went insane on the sideline. I didn't want my drop to be the cause of the loss.
The Jets were in control of the lead. The ball was put on their 46 with 12 seconds left after a 21-yard scramble by the quarterback. On the last play, he was picked off by Ashtyn Davis.
A few Jets players thought that York had made the extra point at that point. C.J. Mosley couldn't figure out why Davis slid to the ground on his return. Reed believed the same thing. It felt better when he realized they had won.
He said that the game was like a film.
