Chinander was fired on Sunday, a day after his defense gave up over 500 yards in a loss to Oklahoma.
Chinander had been in charge of the Cornhuskers' defense since the beginning of the year. Nebraska fired its head football coach, Scott Frost. Bill Busch was appointed as the team's new defensive play caller.
Joseph said they appreciated the work and dedication he gave to the football program. It is in the best interest of the Nebraska football program to take the leadership of the defense in another direction and decided Bill Busch will take over as defensive coordinators.



Nebraska is 114th in points allowed and has only held one opponent to less than 30 points. In terms of rushing defense and against the pass, the Cornhuskers are in the middle of the pack. After losing several key contributors, the unit has backslid.
Chinander was an offensive lineman at Iowa before he joined the Nebraska team. Busch was Utah State's defensive coach from 2009 to 2012 and Rutgers' co-defensive coach from 2017: He has worked on Nebraska's staff three times.
Sources say that Nebraska is still figuring out who will be in charge of special teams. The team is taking a break this week before playing Indiana.
