The funeral of a woman who died after being arrested by Iran's Islamic morality police turned into a protest.

According to Insider, witnesses accused police officers of forcing Amini into a van and beating her in Tehran.

She was arrested because she didn't follow the rules. According to police, Amini died of a sudden heart attack after she was taken into custody, a claim that her family disputes.

Amini's funeral was held in her hometown of Saqqez in Iran's Kurdistan region, where mourners protested her death.

The mourners at the funeral chanted "death to the dictator", according to The National. The local governor's office is where some protesters marched towards.

Several women removed their headscarves in protest of the hijab-wearing rules which were used to arrest Amini. Several women in Saqqez wave their headscarves in the air as they chant anti-government slogans.

The police responded to the protests by firing tear gas at the protesters and arresting some of them.

There were reports of injuries.

Alinejad shared a video of women cutting their hair and destroying their hijabs.

According to RFE/RL, the Iranian government has cracked down on women who are not wearing a hijab in recent weeks.

Netblocks reported that internet connections went down in Tehran and Saqqez during the protests. According to the news outlet, users said they couldn't send or post content on the two platforms.

Iran has shut down the internet in the past. The country's Supreme National Security Council ordered a week-long internet black out in order to stop protests.
