Ted Cruz admits that transporting migrants across the US is illegal, but he still supports Republican governors doing it.

The Texas senator said that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was transporting migrants to Martha's Vineyard.

"I commend Greg Abbott for sending the immigrants to these blue cities, I commend Ron DeSantis for doing so, and they need to do more."

Martha's Vineyard needs 100 tomorrow. Two hundred is what they need the next day. He said they needed a thousand the next day.

Republican lawmakers blame Democratic policies for a rise in migration.

Cruz posed a hypothetical scenario in which he personally drove a truck to the border and picked up immigrants and transported them across the country.

Is it possible that I wouldn't be arrested for human traffickers, and would it be illegal to do that?

Cruz said that the Justice Department wouldn't arrest you if you were a citizen.

The lawmaker said the law was clear on the subject of human traffickers.

Hillary Clinton described the movement of migrants as "literally human trafficking" and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said it amounted to "crimes against humanity on refugees"

Legal experts say not enough information is known to draw conclusions about the legality of governors transporting migrants.

It would be important to try and figure out if the migrants were misled or transported against their will.

According to a professor at the University of Michigan Law School, governors might be protected in this situation.

The issue is whether there is immunity for government officials to move people who are in the country illegally.

Since immigration is a power the feds regulate exclusively, I'm curious if that immunity extends beyond federal officials.

Sarah Sherman-Stokes, who teaches immigration law at Boston University School of Law, told the paper that it was not certain if DeSantis was acting in his capacity as an elected official or personally.

Florida's governor took credit for chartering planes to bring the migrants to Massachusetts.

Florida paid an Oregon-based aviation company $615,000 to take migrants on a plane from Texas to Martha's Vineyard.
