Britain's Ethan Hayter finished fourth in the time trial at the Road World Championships in Australia, as Norway's Tobias Foss won the gold medal.

The finish of Foss' race was crucial as he beat the Swiss man by 2.95 seconds.

After a mechanical problem on his run, Hayter had to swap bikes and finish 36 seconds behind the winner and 30 seconds from the podium.

Ellen van Dijk of the Netherlands retained her title.

In 44:28.60, Van Dijk and Brown matched each other's attempts to win the race.
