The boxes at Mar-a-Lago held news clippings, according to the lawyer.
The boxes did not hold classified information according to the lawyer.
It was reported by The Washington Post.
According to The Washington Post, a lawyer for Donald Trump lied to the National Archives about the contents of boxes at Mar-a-Lago.
Pat Philbin, a lawyer for Trump, told the agency that there were no classified documents in the boxes.
Philbin's claim was based on representations made to him by MarkMeadows, the former president's ex-chief of staff. Neither the men nor their representatives spoke.
The lawyer said that Trump's team was not aware of anything else.
According to documents released by the DOJ, the FBI seized top- secret documents from Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.
The Department of Justice would be asked to investigate Trump's handling of classified information by the National Archives. The former president's Florida resort was raided by the federal government last month and more than 100 classified documents were recovered.
According to the Post, the documents included information on a foreign government's nuclear weapons capability.
After his team denied that any classified records were being held at Mar-a-Lago, the former President suggested that he had declassified all the documents in his possession. There has been no attempt by Trump to make public any information about the documents.
There was no evidence that the documents recovered in the August raid were planted. He has admitted to storing classified documents in his office.
The former president asked a former federal judge to review documents seized by the Department of Justice and assess whether they are subject to attorney-client privilege or claims of executive privilege.
