The Atlanta Falcons have put running back Damien Williams on injured reserve with a rib injury.
One day after he was ruled out for the Rams game, Williams was moved to the inactive list.
Williams was hurt on the second drive of the game against the Saints. Williams played 10 total snaps in the fourth quarter, but said he was still sore the next day and was unsure if he'd be able to play against the Rams.
Williams said the injury happened when a defensive lineman fell on him.
It was 300 pounds on that baby rib. "That's all it was," Williams said. 300 pounds on that baby rib. I got it. It made me feel good.
Williams, who was expected to split time with Cordarrelle Patterson as the team's primary runners this season, had just 2 yards on his first two runs. In Williams' absence, he had career highs in carries and rushing yards.
Williams played for the Chicago Bears last year. In his eight-year career, he has played in 98 games and carried the ball for 1,397 yards and 14 touchdown.
With Williams out at least a month, the Falcons are likely to turn to Tyler Allgeier. During the preseason, Allgeier got some time with the first team, but he was not in the lineup for the game against the Saints. The team's punt returner, or at least the one who was given a standard elevation Saturday from the team's practice squad, could be looked at by the Falcons.
A busy week for Anderson culminated in his elevation to the practice squad by the Falcons. Anderson was released prior to Week 1 and signed with the practice squad at the beginning of this week before being elevated Saturday.
