A California woman charged with encouraging her daughter to attack an opponent at a youth basketball tournament has been ordered to apologize and pay thousands of dollars in compensation.

There was an incident that was caught on video during a game between the Dream Academy and the SoCal Blaze teams.

After attempting a three-pointer in the last few minutes of the game, the attacker fell onto the other team's player. The attacker's mother yelled, "You better hit her for that!" after the two players got up.

Hunt's daughter swung at her and caused her to fall down. A 15-year-old was rushed to a treatment facility after suffering a concussion and a bruised neck.

The Orange County District Attorney said at the time that it was unconscionable that a parent would encourage their child to engage in violence. Discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship can be learned by playing youth sports. A win at all costs mentality that is devoid of fair play, respect, and civility is not good. As parents, we have a responsibility to make our children good human beings who treat others with kindness and humanity.

Hunt was facing up to a year in jail, but on Wednesday a county superior court judge granted her a diversion under the condition that several requirements are fulfilled in the next two years.

A Harvard student decided not to learn English.

An adult directing a child to use violence against another child on a basketball court is reprehensible. She is not only responsible for injuring an innocent child as if she punched her with her own fist, but she transformed her own child into someone who is willing to hurt another child.

The father of the attacker apologized in the wake of the incident.

Benjamin apologized to the young lady who was punched by his daughter during a basketball game and he was praying for her complete healing. She did not deserve this to happen to her and I apologized to her family. I apologize to the people who have been hurt by the actions of my daughter and her mother.
