There is a cache of gold and silver coins behind a temple in the city of Esna.

A team of researchers from Egyp t's Supreme Council for Archaeology discovered a large amount of coins from different parts of the Islamic era.

A variety of gold coins, silver coins, and bronze and brass coins were found during the excavation, which began last year.

A kitchen floor in England contains a large amount of gold coin.

dirhams, silver coins used across several Arab states, were also found among the hidden treasure. Researchers discovered weights and molds that were used during the minting process, according to a translated statement.

Archaeologists don't know why the coins were left at the temple site and hope further analyses of the cache will provide clues to the coins' history.
