Some artists are starting to submit their pieces to stock photography websites to monetize their art. Thousands of results can be found on the site from searches for " Artificial Intelligence generated" or " Midjourney".

Midjourney's art style seems to be the most popular image synthesis tool on the site at the moment. According to the terms of use, the submission of artificial intelligence-generated artwork is allowed. Contributors get a percentage of the licensing fee that varies from 15 to 40 percent.

The process of trying to find which stock websites allowed Midjourney's artwork was laid out in a recent video by a Canadian portrait photographer. Most image synthesis output at the moment isn't high-resolution enough to meet Shutterstock's standards.

There is a fierce debate online about the ethics of artificial intelligence-assisted artwork. Some artist communities are taking action against submissions that flood their sites due to the ease that they can be generated in. Artists that embrace the new artificial intelligence tools continue to push their art in new and interesting directions.

Stock photography websites have been used to train image synthesis models like Stable Diffusion. If future image models trained on scraped images from the internet learn from their own output, the future of art may very well be very recursive.
