The man from Michigan was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the Capitol attack.

The chief judge sentenced Anthony Robert Williams to three years of supervised release after he is released from prison and ordered him to pay a $5,000 fine.

A jury found Williams guilty of obstructing the Congress in certifying the Electoral College vote. He was found guilty of four related offenses.

A prison sentence of five years and four months was recommended by prosecutors.

Three days after the riot, Williams called himself an "operation swamp storm veteran" and referred to January 6 as the "proudest day of my life." It felt like the founding fathers were smiling down on us in that room and I guarantee my dad and gramps would be proud.

In a court filing, prosecutors said that Williams' participation in the riot was "Purposeful, extensive, enthusiastic, and remorseless."

Williams stole water bottles that were supposed to be used by police to decongest themselves from spray. They said that Williams and other rioters entered the Capitol through the Senate Wing doors.

Williams smoked marijuana while celebrating in the Rotunda with other rioters. The police tried to force Williams out of the Rotunda but he joined with other rioters and mocked them.

Attorneys for Williams asked for 15 months of imprisonment.

Mr. Williams has learned a lot from his experience. They wrote that he wouldn't get involved in something like this again.

A number of people have been charged with federal crimes. Half of them received a term of imprisonment ranging from seven days to 10 years. Williams was the only one sentenced to a longer prison term.
