Avelo adds 3rd route from Lexington, Kentucky, to Florida

It will soon be possible for residents of Kentucky to fly directly to Florida.

Avelo Airlines will add a new nonstop route from Blue Grass Airport to Southwest Florida International Airport.

The discount carrier now offers routes to the Florida cities of Tampa andOrlando.

Allegiant Air flies from Lexington to alternate airports in those same regions and will be the only carrier offering service on those routes.

Like most ultra-low-cost carriers, Avelo charges extra for everything from carry-on bags to seat assignments.

Avelo has established a base in Florida. Avelo will fly to six destinations from Fort Lauderdale. New Haven, Connecticut is one of the destinations.

Avelo has increased its presence in smaller cities on the east and west coast. There are other bases for the airline in Florida, Connecticut, and California.

Baltimore, Chicago and Las Vegas are some of the larger cities that Avelo serves.

The carrier has grown rapidly in the last two years.
