The plot or premiere date of the series has been kept under wraps. The sequel to "Blade Runner 2049" will probably take place 50 years after the first one.
The 1982 sci-fi film "Blade Runner" was directed by Ridley Scott, who went on to direct the 1979 horror film "Alien". Harrison Ford is in a cyberpunk film. Rick Deckard is a blade runner who hunts down bio engineered humanoids.
Thirty-five years later, the franchise was revived and the sequel was released.

Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services are likely to revive popular franchises in order to gain more subscribers.
