More than 100 senior executive women from around the world told us that they faced the most gender bias in their careers. Half of them said they were in their mid 30s to 40s. The intensity of bias at this career stage may come as a shock. When women graduated from Harvard Business School, they told us that gender bias in the workplace was higher than they had expected. White women reported levels of gender bias that were three times higher than what they anticipated, and women of color reported levels that were almost double their expectations. Women of color may be more realistic about discrimination in the workplace.
