A jersey worn by Michael Jordan in the first game of the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for over $10 million.
The jersey is the most expensive Jordan item ever sold. There were 20 offers that drove the price to double the estimate.
The journey of Jordan's sixth NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls is chronicled in the popular TV series "The Last Dance." The 1998 Finals were the most watched in NBA history, as viewers across the globe watched the star's final run with the likes of Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Steve Kerr.
Despite Jordan scoring 33 points, the Bulls lost to the Utah Jazz. The Bulls wore their famous red away game jerseys. The Jordan-led team took the series 4-2, and Jordan got his sixth NBA Finals Most Valuable Player.
The shirt Diego Maradona wore when he scored the "Hand of God" goal in the 1986 World Cup sold for $9.3 million.
The sale of Jordan's jersey was announced on Thursday. The New York-based auction house has pushed to update and even boast of its own metaverse location.
