Can Russ and Pat Bev coexist? Stephen A. weighs in (2:36)

The issues that could arise with the two players playing for the Lakers are discussed by Stephen A. Smith and Mad Dog. There is a time and a place for it.

Two of the NBA's biggest questions of the off-season have been solved.

While the Brooklyn Nets seem to be on track to run it back with their current core intact, the drama at the arena is not over.

Will the partnership survive after the public airing of grievances? Will Ben Simmons make an immediate impact after being traded to Brooklyn?

The Nets will continue to make headlines. A new point guard will be welcomed by the Lakers. Can Russell and Patrick coexist in the same back court?

The questions that our NBA Insiders want to see answered throughout training camp and the start of the 2022-23 season include what lies ahead for the defending champion's youngsters, key players returning from injury for the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls, and theMVP contender who played big minutes at EuroBasket

KD? Kyrie? Simmons? Will all be well in Brooklyn?

It is where it is now.

  • On August 24th, Kevin requested a trade.

  • The fourth year of Irving's contract was Opted into.

  • Ben Simmons hasn't played since the 2021, East semifinals.

If you've heard this before, you'll know that the Nets have a few questions to answer.

Brooklyn is confident that its off-season drama can help it win basketball. It's not clear if the relationship will last the entire season, let alone the four years remaining on his contract.

Simmons will be out for 16 months when the Nets begin their season in Brooklyn on October 19th, and we have not heard much about him this summer.

Shortly after the Nets' first-round sweep against the Celtics, the Nets announced that Simmons had a successful microdiscectomy. Simmons is expected to recover in time for the start of training camp.

The Nets are defined by a number of ifs. The Nets are capable of becoming a title contender if all of the above players are available and on the court.

Simmons is the ideal player to play with.

If Simmons is out there creating open looks, a lineup of Simmons, Durant, Irving, Joe Harris and Curry could be devastating. Over the last five seasons, 372 players have tried 150 wide-open 3s. Harris and Curry are in the top four.

The people are Tim Bontemps and Nick Friedell.

What's next for Russ, Pat Bev and the Lakers?

It is where it is now.

  • Russell had his worst offensive season since 2010 in his first year with the Lakers.

  • On July 6th, the Lakers traded for Patrick Beverly to share time with Westbrook at point guard

  • The new agent was fired by the old one on July 15.

The first day of training could be awkward for the Lakers. Even though both guards were present at the introductory news conference, there is a clear history between them.

After hearing his name in trade rumors all summer, it doesn't look like he's going anywhere, as evidenced by the comments from new coach Darvin Ham.

It's up to Ham and his staff to revive the superstars after they failed to mesh during the 11th place finish in the Western Conference. When the ball is in James' hands, ham is tasked with maximizing the performance of the player.

How will the dynamic between the two players change? When the two sat on opposite ends of the court, it was awkward.

This type of atmosphere is nothing new for the player, who has always been motivated by perceived slights or criticism. Rumors of a trade have been replaced by talk that he and Beverley can't coexist in the backcourt.

Lonzo Ball and Khris Middleton injuries: Where does each stand in their recovery?

It is where it is now.

  • It's not expected that Ball will return for the start of the season.

  • It is expected that he will return around the start of the season after having knee and wrist surgeries.

On Wednesday, October 19th.

Knicks vs. Grizzlies, 7:30 p.m.

Mavericks vs Suns, 10 p.m.

The day of Friday, October 21.

The Celtics are playing the Heat at 7:30pm.

Nuggets vs Warriors, 10 p.m.

It's all times Eastern.

The Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks didn't make a lot of changes this year because they believe their full, healthy rosters can compete in the East.

Milwaukee believes it would have been on its way to another NBA Finals if Middleton hadn't slipped on a drive to the basket in the first round of the playoffs.

It is expected that Middleton will be ready for the start of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a wrist injury. Milwaukee is known for being cautious when it comes to injuries, so expect them to prioritize getting Middleton healthy for the stretch run and playoffs, even if that means starting the season without its All-Star.

The Bulls had a worse season than their division rivals.

Chicago was the top seed in the East and had a 27-13 record. Without him, it lost five games in a row and finished with a 19-23 record. Ball had surgery on his knee in January and each attempt to get him ready for the end of the season ended in disappointment.

As recently as during the summer league, Bulls Vice President Arturas Karnisovas acknowledged that Ball's health is improving but he is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season. The organization hasn't given any information about Ball's status or how long his issues will last.

Are the Warriors' youngsters ready to step up?

It is where it is now.

The Warriors were able to bring along their younger players during their run to the NBA title.

As rookies, Kuminga and Moody filled in for injured players and even got a chance to start, even though they didn't play much. Golden State's depth allowed second-year player Wiseman to take time to recover from a knee injury that ended up costing him the entire season.

That is no longer the case for the champ.

Golden State's three youngsters will assume expanded roles as a result of the departures of Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr., Juan Toscano- Anderson, and Damion Lee.

The Warriors want Kuminga to use his athletic ability to his advantage, most notably his skills as a slasher and finishing player. At the end of last season, he showed an ability to draw contact and get to the free-throw line, evidenced by a 10-for-12 showing at the stripe in a win over the Portland Trail blazers.

Moody is seen as a 3-and-D floor-spacer who can use his 7-foot-1 wingspan on the defensive end. Moody shot 36.4% from deep in his first year.

There is still a question as to what Wiseman can do. He lacks the sample size of his younger teammates, but he did have a good summer league and offered a glimpse of how the Warriors want to use him. He'll mostly live near the rim, but the team won't discourage him from letting it fly from long range.

How will EuroBasket impact Giannis, Luka and The Joker? Should teams be worried about wear and tear?

It is where it is now.

More than two dozen NBA players represented their countries in the latest iteration of EuroBasket, including three members of last year's All-NBA First Team.

With this year's addition of qualification games for the World Cup as part of the lead-up to EuroBasket, the extra mileage on stars could be a concern. It hasn't been an issue in the past for these stars.

On Monday through Friday, host Pablo Torre brings you an inside look at the most interesting stories at ESPN, as told by the top reporters and Insiders. You can listen.

Jokic played in the World Cup for Serbia. He returned to play all 73 of the Denver Nuggets' games in the season that ended in the Western Conference finals. Jokic got an extended break after Denver was eliminated from the playoffs.

The last time EuroBasket was played, Doncic helped establish his NBA potential by leading his country to the gold. He was the youngest EuroLeagueMVP. Doncic took the court for his country in the Olympics because his country did not qualify for the World Cup. Although enough time passed after that competition for Doncic to enter training camp heavier than his normal playing weight, he showed plenty of endurance taking the Dallas Mavericks to this year's West finals.

He played in the World Cup despite missing the last EuroBasket with a knee injury. He averaged a career-high 29.5 points per game in the season, after winning a second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player award. Despite his heroics, the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.

The person is Kevin Pelton.
