Happy launch day for the new phone. Customers can get the new phones in Apple retail stores around the world. We picked up an Apple product and thought we'd show it off to MacRumors readers, who are waiting for their deliveries or still trying to make a purchase.

The Dynamic Island is a clever redesign that turns the TrueDepth system hardware into part of the user interface and it is one of the most interesting new features of the iPhone 14 Pro. The Dynamic Island will change the way we view information and interact with our phones.

Incoming phone calls, Face ID, Apple Pay, and charging when the camera is in use are just some of the things the Dynamic Island has to offer. Since it's front and center, it feels like a more seamless notification experience.

The always-on display technology introduced by Apple makes the iPhone 14 Pro models in line with the Apple watch. The always-on display is just a dimmer version of your Lock Screen with no additional customization options, so you can see the time, your Widget, and a darkened version of your wallpaper even when the display isn't in active use. The reviews suggest that you might see a bit of battery drain if you use the Always-on display. Next week, we're going to try that out.

There's a new 48-megapixel camera in the iPhone 14 Pro that has an updated sensor that lets in more light, as well as the " Photonic Engine" software that improves low-light photography. We will be doing a deeper dive into the camera to understand the differences between the two models.

The low-light photography improvements and close-up photos make them look more natural even when not using Portrait Mode.

By default, Apple uses a method called pixel binning to combine the data from four points into one, but you can take a full 48-MIP image. You can crop in a decent amount with this option, and Apple has also used it to provide a 2x zoom option. It's nice to have options for portraits.

For video, there's an Action mode that makes action sequences smooth and eliminates camera shake, similar to what you'd get when using a Gimbal. Outside of Action mode, you can watch 4K video at 60, 30, and 24 frames per second. We didn't get that 8K video option.

Only the iPhone 14 Pro models have an updated chip this year. The A16 is an upgrade over the 5-nanometer process. The chips are more efficient when there is a smaller nodes. The A15 was already blazing fast so you might not see noticeable changes in day to day use, but it's not a big deal.

We weren't able to test Crash Detection or Emergency SOS via satellite in time for this video, but these are two safety features that make the iPhone more valuable than ever in an emergency situation, and we will check them out at a later date.

Have you picked up an Apple product? We want to know what you think of it. Most of the features are only available on the iPhone 14 Pro models and are not available on the other two models.
