  • Google is apparently developing a number of new capabilities for the Messages app.
  • Messages may be picking up a new button for transcribing voice message audio.
  • The app also appears to be adding a new capability to let you react to a message with any emoji and view the photo picker in a vertical-scrolling layout.

If they don't have time to type a message, or if they are on the fly, they prefer to send a voice message. When listening to a voice message audio isn't ideal, there's a chance that a potential Google Messages feature will come in handy.

There are a number of new capabilities for the Messages app spotted by 9to5google. One of the best messaging apps could get the features that have been found in an APK.

Two years ago the app added a feature that allowed it to provide transcripts for voice messages. When voice message audio isn't clear or listening isn't an option, it can help. The feature only takes voice messages on your device and doesn't send the transcript contents to the internet.

9to5 states that voice memo transcription is slower and less accurate than voice typing with the Google Assistant on the phone.

A bigger set of emoji reactions is in the works. You can now choose from an unlimited selection of emojis, as well as preset ones, according to a report. The new emoji reactions seem to be showing up for some people.

If you use the app to send photos to friends and family, it could get a new layout. There is a hint of a new photo gallery design in the newest version of Messages.

The current design requires you to scroll through a grid of pictures. There is a dedicated button for folders that will allow you to look through old images on top of the recent ones.

When and if these features make it to a public release, they will be a nice improvement to Messages.
