Changes in its economy class cabin are part of LATAM's sustainable efforts.
The changes made it possible to eliminate more than 1,200 tons of single-use plastic.
The new service seeks to implement a more sustainable cabin and considers important changes in the materiality of all items on board (cups, cutlery, trays), replacing them with more sustainable materials.
All of the LATAM group's regional and long-haul routes have been changed to eliminate single-use plastic.
LATAM has a program called Recycle Your Trip that allows cabin crew members to separate plastic and cans on flights.
A bamboo toothbrush with a sugar cane lid, eco travel kits for passengers, and eye covers made from recycled plastic are some of the changes that have been made in the Premium Business cabin.
The LATAM Airlines Group Vice President of Customers was speaking.
“Caring for the planet is a challenge for everyone, and a necessary destination for LATAM, which is why we reviewed our services and identified nearly 1,800 tons of single-use plastic on board our international flights. Our teams got involved to redefine all details of our service, making a positive change for our customers, and also for our planet,”
With net-zero goals, airlines are trying to find ways to reduce the use of harmful products while offsetting their carbon emissions.
LATAM wants to send zero waste to landfill by 2027, reduce and offset 50% of domestic emissions by 2030, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, but it will still be a challenge.
