The new Live Activities feature in the next version of the operating system will allow users to stay on top of things that are happening in real time, such as a sports game or a food delivery order, right from the lock screen.

Apple is testing Live Activities integration with sports games via the TV app in the first version of its new operating system for mobile devices.

In the TV app, tapping on the Follow button for a sports game results in a Live Activity appearing on the Lock Screen for the game, complete with a live-updating scorecard and play-by-play action.

A brief summary of the game is shown above the time, next to the date, as shown in the screen shot below.

There are live activities at the bottom of the Lock Screen. Live Activities will appear at the top of the Lock Screen in the Dynamic Island, a pill shaped area surrounding the Face ID sensors and front camera that can expand to display system alert and other content.

Live Activities will be included in the next version of Apple's software. The feature will be available for users in the U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K., Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea, as well as for users in the US and Canada only.

Third-party apps can support the clock feature as well. Developers will be able to submit Live Activities to the App Store once the release candidate is available.

Customers in Australia and New Zealand will be the first to get their hands on the new iPhones.
