The UK snubbed Russian President Vladimir Putin and any form of Russian representation, from invitations to Queen Elizabeth II's funeral over the war in Ukraine, according to a Russian official.

Maria Zakharova said in a statement that the British Foreign Office told the Russian embassy in London that they wouldn't be invited to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine was cited by the British as the reason for this step.

The Queen's reign as head of the British monarchy came to an end after 70 years. She was over the age of 100. The funeral will include family members, heads of state, and world leaders, but not Putin.

The UK official told CNN that representatives from the two countries wouldn't be invited. The Kremlin denied earlier this week that the Russian president was not invited to the funeral.

"This British attempt to use a national tragedy that has touched the hearts of millions of people around the world for geopolitical purposes to settle scores with our country during the days of mourning is profoundly immoral," Zakharova said.

Putin sent a telegram to King Charles III, wishing him courage and perseverance in the face of the loss of his mother.

For a long time, Elizabeth II enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as authority on the world stage.
