Nicole Jackson-Maldonado was warned by the judge to think carefully about her case, listen to her attorneys and consider a plea deal with prosecutors.

She was told that going to trial could be dangerous.

"This is like putting all your chips on the table, I don't know if you know much about gambling, but it's the same thing," he said. The consequences will be lifelong if you don't win or if you don't win at all.

Jackson-Maldonado would be sent to state prison for 20 years if he accepted the prosecutors' offer.

According to charging affidavits, Jackson-Maldonado and a boy broke into a house and armed themselves with guns after running away from the Florida United Methodist Children's Home.

Jackson-Maldonado and the boy fired at the sheriff's office. Reports said that Jackson-Maldonado was shot by the sheriff's office.

There were no injuries.

Jackson-Maldonado could be sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, as well as other charges.

The attempted murder of a law enforcement charge would be amended.

Jackson-Maldonado didn't accept the plea offer. She would have been sentenced to state prison for 20 years and 40 years of supervised release.

Jackson-Maldonado's sentence will be reviewed within 25 years or sooner if she is found guilty of a crime. She is being held at a jail.

As part of the plea deal, the boy could be released from a juvenile facility in less than three years.

The News-Journal isn't naming the boy since he was a juvenile.

Baker Acted is when a person is taken into custody for a mental health evaluation if they are considered a threat to themselves or others.

In Palm Coast, Jackson-Maldonado was accused of setting fires to vacant lots. Up to five years in prison is the maximum sentence for a third- degree felony. The case is still open.

'Facing a life sentence'

The previous plea offer for 20 years in state prison was repeated by the assistant state attorney. She said it would take 15 years to finish. A prosecutor said at a previous hearing that it would take 40 years to get on the sex offenders' register.

Jackson-Maldonado was asked if she knew about it.

Jackson-Maldonado agreed.

"I know you're a young person and I know the state's offer is very steep but you need to understand one thing: You are facing a life sentence with a number of reviews somewhere along the way." In your case, a life sentence is not out of the question.

If you reject the state's offer, and the jury finds you guilty, you're looking at a lot more than just 20 years in prison.

He told her to pay attention to her lawyers.

Hope is not a good tactic if you're coming to the court with only one strategy. It's not a good idea to hope that things work out well for you. There is a plan in place.

Jackson-Maldonado was told by the judge that the verdict could be against her.

It's in the judge's hands if you want your fate to be out of your control. I'm not saying that you can't make up for what happened here. The police reports show the facts of the case. It doesn't look good for you.
