Sandy Alderson will step down as president of the New York Mets at the end of the search for a new leader.
Steve Cohen is the owner of the company.
"For me personally and for the organization, this is the right time to make a change," he said. We are having a successful season, we have made several key additions to our senior leadership team, and we have a strong and forward- thinking culture. I will be supporting Steve, Alex and the organization in a new role when the time is right.
He was the Mets' general manager. The Mets' president was brought back by Cohen after he purchased the team.
Cohen said that Sandy came back to the team for a defined period of time and with a specific mandate to revive the franchise. Sandy has done a lot and we are looking for his successor. Sandy has been asked to stay on as a special advisor to me and the senior leadership team.
The Mets held a small lead over the Braves in the NL East.
