Despite being limited in practice for the second day in a row, New York Giants top pick Kayvon Thibodeaux is confident that he will be ready to play in the team's season opener. He missed the opener because of a knee injury he sustained in the second preseason game.

The coach said that the player participated in drills. At Thursday's practice, he did a little more. The No. 5 pick in this year's draft worked on the side with a trainer and rode a stationary bike while the media was allowed to watch.

Thibodeaux said Thursday that it was getting close. Trying not to look too far. Still have Friday and Saturday. I'm very confident in this weekend.

The man said he was feeling better than before. He still has a lot of work to do to be labeled as a day-to- day person. He won't make a final decision until he sees how he progresses over the next few days.

The Giants won in Tennessee without two of their best players. Ojulari was limited at Thursday's practice as he attempts to return from a calf injury.

Kadarius Toney appeared on the injury report. He had a problem with a leg injury this summer.

A big boost against the Carolina offense would be the presence of Thibodeaux and Ojulari.

"Well, you're talking about two first-round talented, so it's a huge benefit, so we'll see how they come back," the Giants defensive assistant coach said. That game is going to be kicked off regardless.

There was always a chance that he would not play in the opener. He was given a time frame of three to four weeks for his return from the injury.

It seemed like Week 2 or 3 would be his return. The Giants have a top draft pick.

We've been making gains. On Friday and Saturday, it will be up to me. Everything is going well and I'm positive about it.

He said in the locker room that he would have played had it been the Super Bowl. He was asked if he would have played.

The game is not happening today. We will take it day to day. I got better because I practiced on Thursday. Continue to get better every day, that's the way to go.

If there are no restrictions, the plan is for him to play. A compromised version of the pass-rusher is what the Giants want.

At practice, the brace on his right knee has not made him uncomfortable or limiting.

He said he would be 100% if he was on the field. It's day-to-day right now. I am very hopeful.
