There won't be a Star Wars movie in 3 years. Late last year it was reported that the film about pilots was likely to be delayed. The film was on the schedule for nine months before it was taken off.
What does that mean for the movie? There are a lot of TV shows coming to Disney+ in the next few years and that is the immediate future of the brand. Lucasfilm had no comment when io9 reached out to them about Taika Waititi writing and directing a Star Wars movie.
Six years after Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, the next Star Wars movie may not be directed by Waititi or another person. It would be the longest gap between films in the series.
This is positive. We have seen what can happen if something is rushed to market just to get a release date. It would be better to keep the fans happy with Disney+ shows like The Acolyte, and make sure the movie is good.
The next movie from the director of Star Wars shows has had its release delayed as well. We got a look at the movie last week. It was supposed to be out in March but will be out in the summer.
Are you worried about the future of the movies? I was surprised by the move. Let us know what you think.
