The Wilsons said during a press conference Thursday that their donation would go to the B.C. Parks Foundation.

The Wilsons will use their funds to purchase forests in British Columbia along with other resources licenses to turn massive amounts of land into parks that indigenous groups can manage and profit from through tourism.

Falling Creek Sanctuary is a 528-acre space in the northeast part of British Columbia and has been earmarked for protection.

Wilson and his wife hope the Canadian government will match their donation.

Most of Wilson's wealth comes from his stake in the yoga clothing company.

The Wilsons followed the larger announcement from Yvon Chouinard, who said Wednesday he is transferring ownership of his company to trusts and nonprofits that will divert all of his company's future profits towards fighting climate change.

Key Background

Wilson founded the company in 2000 and took it public in 2007. He stepped down from his position as chairman after making comments that caused a public uproar. Wilson is the largest individual shareholder with about 8% of the shares.
