The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus models have a back glass panel that can be removed for simpler repairs, according to reports. This is the first time that these models can be opened from the back.
To replace the back glass on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, Apple Stores and Apple authorized service providers need to open the device from the display side, disassemble components, and install an "iPhone Rear System" part, which is an enclosure with all components except the display and rear camera. If the customer's original display and rear camera are undamaged, this part will be affixed to them.
The entire device can be replaced for the older models of the iPhone. It will be less expensive for Apple to use the new method for its products.
The device can still be opened from the display side, so screen repairs won't be affected by this change. The change is limited to the standard models and the reviews did not mention it.
For both parts and labor, Apple Stores in the US will charge $169 and $199 for the repair of damaged back glass on the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. The fee is reduced to $29 for both models if the customer has Apple Care+. Fees may be different at Apple authorized service providers.
This Friday, customers will be able to place their orders for the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus.
