Today, TikTok launched a new feature that is basically a copy of Be Real, a French social app that has been gaining popularity. BeReal invites users to take a front and back camera photo at a random time every day in order to capture a more authentic picture of what our friends are doing all day. Front and back camera features have been launched by bothSnapchat andInstagram. TikTok was the first app to cut and paste Be Real into its platform.

"TikTok Now invites you and your friends to capture what you're doing in the moment using your device's front and back cameras." You will get a daily prompt to take a 10-second video or a static photo to easily share what you are up to.

Every day when the BeReal goes out, users get a push notification that says "it's time to BeReal." TikTok has the same notification as BeReal, but it has a different ring to it.

The feature is now available in the US, according to TikTok. The bottom navigation bar appears to have earned valuable real estate next to the posting button in the images. We haven't seen the feature yet. In other parts of the world, TikTok Now may be downloaded as a separate app.

If you don't turn off your location, you could accidentally share your location with all of your friends. BeReal is supposed to be used in your main social circle. The internet is the thing. A public feed is available. The location doesn't appear to be part of the TikTok Now interface.

Privacy features are built into TikTok Now. If a person under the age of 16 register for a TikTok Now app, their account will be private. Users must be 18 to post on the Explore Feed. Only your friends who follow you back will be allowed to comment on your posts. Even though they can change their settings to share with the world, the default setting will only allow friends to see your posts.

It feels like a cheap shot when all the social apps share the same name. There are a lot of apps with a TikTok clone. The company has less than 50 employees, and isn't part of a big tech firm. So it's going.
