The Swiss player announced his retirement from tennis in a letter posted to the social networking site.

The Laver Cup in London will be the end of the tour for Roger. He recorded himself reading the letter.

Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamed, and now I must recognize when it's time to end my competitive career, said the tennis player in a letter. I will play more tennis but not on the tour.

He has the record for the most consecutive weeks at the top with 241. He is a 20-time Grand Slam winner. During his career, he has played more than 1,500 games.

The tour has given me so much and I will miss it. There is a lot to celebrate. I think I'm one of the most fortunate people on the planet.

He established rivalries against other greats when he became a pro.

He thanked his family in the letter. Over 120 million dollars in career earnings was earned by the tennis player. Wilson is one of his sponsors.

He mentioned at the U.S. Open that it was almost time to retire but not yet. He walked his statement back as a joke.

After retiring, the tennis player wrote a letter in which he said he would never leave the game.
