Apple published a new support document for using eSIMs while traveling abroad amid criticism from some customers regarding the removal of the sim card tray on all iPhone 14 models.

An eSIM is more secure than a physical one because it can't be removed from an lost or stolen phone. Apple says that you don't need to get, carry, and swap physical sim cards if you use eSIMs.

According to the support document, the iPhone 13 and newer can have two eSIMs at the same time, while the iPhone XS and newer can only have one.

One eSIM for your home and another for the place you're visiting could be included in this. Changing your selections in the settings will allow you to swap your eSIMs.

Information for customers looking to roam internationally with their existing carrier, purchase an eSIM from a local carrier while traveling abroad, or purchase a pre-paid eSIM from a worldwide service provider can be found in the support document.

The unlocked version of the iPhone 14 can be activated by customers in 100 markets around the world. Many service providers offer eSIM data plans for long-term use in countries around the world, according to Apple.

Some people are concerned about the availability of eSIM when traveling abroad with an eSIM-only phone.

Austin Mann said he was concerned about the practicality of an eSIM only approach for travelers with US iPhones who frequently visit the developing world. Mann plans to travel to East Africa in the summer of next year, but he hasn't been able to find a way to sign up for an eSIM line.

The support document is not likely to make up for the disappointment of customers, but it is a helpful resource.
