The Major League Baseball Players Association became the players' bargaining representative after the union-authorization cards were approved by an arbiter.

The process of unionizing began with the distribution of cards and ended with the organizing of more than 5,000 players. All of the 1,200 players on major league teams' 40-man rosters, as well as those at teams' Florida and Arizona complexes, will now be covered by the Major League Baseball Players Association.

The minor league's first collective bargaining agreement is expected to be negotiated after the season ends. The players started organizing after MLB ran all aspects of the minor league, setting salaries, working conditions and other things.

The yearslong effort at organizing and the rapidity of the union's formation is the most substantive yet for the players.

Tony Clark said that this historic achievement required the right group of players to succeed. Minor leaguers have seized that moment and we look forward to improving their terms and conditions of employment through good-faith collective bargaining.

The league plans to recognize the union after it was revealed that more than half of the players' returned cards were in favor of the union. MLB's voluntary recognition was affirmed on Wednesday by the count of the cards and confirmation by the Arbitrator.

The formation of advocacy groups in recent years led to the unionization of minor league players. "For decades, conventional wisdom said it was impossible to unionize the minor league baseball teams," said Harry Marino, the former executive director of Advocates for Minor League Baseball. A group of people came together to prove that wrong. The lives of many people will be better because of their efforts.

Major League Baseball has a long history of negotiating in good faith with unions, including those representing minor and major league umpires. Workers have the right to decide if they want to join a union. Major League Baseball recognized the MLBPA as the representatives of minor league players based on the authorization cards gathered. It is our hope that a fair collective bargaining agreement will be reached that will benefit the game, minor league players and our fans.
