Charlotte Bennett, a former aide to former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has accused Cuomo of making unwanted sexual advances towards her.
Bennett said she was forced to resign because of a toxic work environment and that she experienced near-debilitating anxiety.
Bennett said in a statement that her career in public service was cut short because of her accusations of sexual harassment against Cuomo.
Rita Glavin, Cuomo's lawyer, told the Associated Press that Cuomo has always said he didn't harass anyone and that more and more information is uncovered.
Cuomo asked Bennett if she'd consider having sex with an older man, among other things.
Cuomo, a Democrat, resigned in August 2021 after serving three terms in office, a week after James released a report including allegations from Bennett and several other women that concluded Cuomo had sexually harassed at least 11 women, including Bennett. According to the report, the women were subjected to non-consensual kissing, touches and inappropriate comments. Several members of Cuomo's own party called on him to leave office. Cuomo has tried to paint allegations of sexual harassment as different from other types of harassment. He claimed that Bennett misinterpreted their conversations. Cuomo has tried to undermine the women who have accused him of sexual harassment.
Cuomo accused James and the independent attorneys hired to investigate his behavior of ignoring evidence that supported his claims.
Charlotte Bennett was sued over sexual harassment accusations.
Andrew Cuomo is being sued by an ex-Aide who accused him of sexual harassment.
