The Kremlin denied that the Russian president was not invited to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Putin sent a telegram of sympathy to the royal family over the Queen's death, according to CNN.

According to the news outlet, the president had no other plans to attend memorial or other events.

Reports emerged this week that representatives from Russia and other countries wouldn't be invited to the funeral.

CNN reported this week that a senior British government source said that Russia and its allies would not be welcome at the funeral in London because of Putin's actions.

The late monarch's state funeral is expected to be attended by hundreds of foreign leaders.

The public will be able to pay their respects to the Queen when she lies in state in the hall for four days before her funeral.

The UK has imposed sanctions on more than 1,000 people and over 100 businesses in Russia since the beginning of the year.
