Klopp likens North vs South proposal to Harlem Gloebtrotters (1:10)

Todd Boehly's proposal to stage a game between the north and south was dismissed by the boss. There is a time and a place for this.

8:00 AM ET

An all-star game of North vs. South, similar to those featured in a variety of sports in the US, was proposed by Todd Boehly, the new co-owner of Chelsea.

It hasn't gone down well, given the ongoing debate around fixture congestion, and raises a lot of questions, even attracting the mockery of the manager of the club.

Boehly suggested that a North vs. South game could be used to raise money for all levels of football in England.

In the big sports in America, these players have a four-month break. It's not the same in football. I can't say anything. Is he going to bring the Globetrotters to play against a football team?

Some fans might think that it could replace the Community Shield. It won't happen. Which players would play in an all-star game right now? The number of players from one club is not a factor when selecting the North and South XIs.

You can watch LaLiga, Bundesliga, MLS, more on the US version of the network.

Premier League North (by Mark Ogden)

Alisson has been a bright spot for the team this year. While many of his teammates are suffering a loss of form, the goalkeeper has been outstanding and edges out Ederson for the No.1 spot.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker are competing for the right-back position. I went for Trippier but it was a close choice. Trippier's set piece ability swings it in his favor.

I've gone for Lisandro Martinez because he has been out of sorts. After signing for Manchester United for 57.37 million in the summer, the centre back had a bad start, but he has recovered and been excellent with Raphael Varane at the heart of defence.

The best centre-back in the premier league right now is Ruben Dias. It was understated but reliable.

Cancelo has no competition for this position since Andy Robertson is struggling for form at both Manchester United andLiverpool. Even if they were all in top form, the Portugal international would still be the winner.

Man City have the best defensivemid in the league with Rodri. If he were put into the Manchester United team, they would be much stronger because he would protect the back four.

One of the best players of the season thus far is Christian Eriksen. His vision and calmness on the ball has led to comparisons to Paul Scholes at Old United and his performances have been even more remarkable considering the battle he has had to endure to play again after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Kevin De Bruyne is an obvious choice in the middle.

Foden is an obvious choice in an attacking role because of his pace, movement and eye for goal. The 22-year-old is improving.

If any player proves the maxim that form is temporary, but class is permanent, it's theLiverpool forward. He can still win a game even though he's not performing well.

The central strikers role could be played by another person. Haaland has 10 goals so far in the premier league and is on the verge of setting many records. He was going to get into a World XI.

There are replacements.

There is so much depth in the northern squad that I've looked beyond the Manchester clubs to add Jack Harrison and Anthony Gordon. There is no place for the man. He has done nothing this season.

Ederson is a Man City player.

Premier League South (by James Olley)

The importance of form makes this much harder for the South. This team is definitely going to lose anyways, so it might as well go down fighting.

For a dependable if unspectacular start to the season, Hugo Lloris gets the nod, even though he has had his struggles recently.

James is the best right-back/right wing-back in the region, despite his injury problems.

Antonio Conte is trying to introduce defensive resilience at Spurs.

The 21-year-old was nowhere near this team six weeks ago, but a promising start to the season gave him the nod. He took the place of Thiago Silva because of that.

The less-heralded arrival from Manchester City atArsenal, but one who has given the club much greater control in matches, drifting into the middle of the park from the left flank in a similar style to Cancelo.

The best defensivemid in the South is Declan Rice. There isn't another player who is more effective at bringing balance to a team than the one at West Ham.

Tuchel lamented not having Kante fit more often. The Blues' best performance of the season was a 2-2 draw against Spurs when they should have won.

It was tempting to play Gabriel Jesus out wide because he did the same job at City, but the Brazilian has been used as a centre-forward by the club. Saka is always dangerous.

At the end of the Tuchel era, the FW began to find his feet at the club. His understanding with Harry Kane in the England side gives him more reason to make it, even though Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha missed out.

August hasn't always been his month, but the England captain has started the season well and is now third on the all-time premier league goal-scorers' list It's an obvious choice.

Spurs star Son Heung-Min would be an automatic choice, but his struggles this season are in stark contrast to the six goals he has already scored.

There are replacements.

The South has a lot of their leading stars with form issues to resolve and a lot of these subs would be starting on past peak performance and reputation.

The goalkeeper is Edouard Mendy of the Blues.
