Mass shootings and other random acts of gun violence have become more frequent as leaders at Northwell Health, the largest health care provider in the state. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States experienced more firearm-related deaths than any year on record in 2011. Children and adolescents are more likely to die from firearms than other causes. We have seen more firearm injured patients this year than any other time in our history. Hospitals, health systems, businesses, and all other types of organizations have a responsibility to help reduce gun violence in America.
