It's nice that you don't have to use the Notification Center to access these live activities; it's just playful and fun. Not every app is compatible with Dynamic Island. Google Maps did not work as well as it could have. In a year's time, I think this feature will be worth more.
The always on display is next. It's been a feature on the phones for a long time, but now it's an option on the phone. The screen seems to track, since it runs at a power-sipping 1 Hz. If you put the phone upside down in your pocket or bag, the screen will shut off so you don't have to worry.
The 120-hertz screen is brighter than ever before. I don't think it's necessary, as I've never found the iPhone's screen lacking in brightness, but I will say that at these extreme brightness levels, the iPhone 14 Pro maintains really fantastic colors.
These two phones are the only ones with the latest and greatest A16 Bionic processor, which is usually found in the whole range. They are some of the fastest mobile chips out there, and that is reflected in every task, especially gaming. I played Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm and Rocket League Sideswipe with my BackBone One controller and the phone didn't get hot. Are you going to notice a big difference between the A15 and the A14? It's probably not.
It is time to discuss the eSIM. If you want to use your phone on your carrier's network, you'll have to set up an eSim. This tech has been around for a while, but this is the first phone that doesn't use a sim. The process of using an eSIM was very easy for me to understand. I was asked if I wanted to transfer my number from my old phone to the new one. Within a few minutes my number was on the new phone. There was no need for a small tool. The number was transferred from one phone to another with no problems.
I was going to transfer my number to a phone with eSIM support. I wasn't able to get far because I didn't have a carrier that would allow me to use aQR code. I would have had to call my carrier if I moved my number from my phone to the new device. I don't know how this is easier than just popping a physical phone number in and out. This is more of a problem for me because you aren't likely to switch to multiple phones all the time. ESIMs are more secure. It introduces a lot of hassle for people who don't want to be locked into Apple's system. I hope this experience improves over time with improved interoperability.
