R&B Singer Jesse Powell Dead at 51

According to his family, Jesse Powell died at his home in L.A.

He died Tuesday night, but his sister did not reveal the cause of death.

A music producer saw Jesse perform at a local talent show and gave him his first break. His first album was released in 1996.

In the mid-to-late '90s, Jesse had some success, but he really hit his stride with the release of his 1998 song, "You." His second album, "Bout It," was certified gold after it reached the top of the charts. His vocal range was praised. He retired after four releases.

The man was 51 years old.
