The new addition to the family of compact action cameras is called the Osmo Action 3. The new offering from the world's leading drone manufacturer features a complete redesign, two touch screens and a focus on portrait-mode shooting.

The DJI Action 2 featured a modular design and a suite of magnetic accessories. The first model in the series is more similar to the latest one than the other way around.

The camera can shoot in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second with a wide 155 degree field of view. According to the company, it can keep footage level for surfers even through heavy bumps and 360-degree rotation, thanks to the RockSteady 3.0 image stabilization that works even at 4K/ 120 frames per second. For activities like an obstacle course run, the perfect middle ground isHorizonBalancing.

The battery can be fully charged in 50 minutes and the camera can record up to 160 minutes, according to the company. It can handle temperatures as low as -4 degrees F and run continuously until the battery is drained. According to its technical specifications, its predecessor was only operational at a temperature of 32 degrees F.

The camera has a protective frame with support for both horizontal and vertical quick mounting, so it can be fastened to things like handlebars and helmets. The quick-release design was first used on the Action 2 for a more impact- resistant hold.

The Osmo Action 3 is said to be the first action camera to allow the user to access settings from the front or back. Three-mic stereo recording, voice controls, and a 4x digital zoom are included. If the built-in microphones don't suffice, the Action 3 can be used with external microphones via 3.5mm toUSB-C.

Without an additional housing, the camera unit is waterproof to a depth of 52 feet. Extra batteries can be purchased as well as a case that can hold two microSD cards and fast-charging three batteries, with the option to use it as a powerbank to charge your phone and other devices.

The September 14th announcement for the DJI Osmo Action 3 is likely no coincidence considering the same price as the Hero 11 will be sold by the same company today.
