This week, Microsoft will add full theme support to its Windows Terminal. Windows Terminal users can modify the appearance of tabs, the window, and even background images. Windows Terminal has been changed to use a dark theme instead of following the Windows system theme.

Unless you're a developer, creating themes for Windows Terminal isn't easy. In the settings section of Windows Terminal, you can find the theme that you want to use. You are free to use a combination of colors and background images as you please, as long as you follow the instructions provided by Microsoft.

Microsoft is changing the default colors in Windows Terminal to make it look more cohesive. There is a new text rendering engine underneath that supports bold text and hyperlink lines.

The color schemes page has been improved, too.

The color schemes page was not the most intuitive and needed a redesign. The settingsUI color schemes page has been updated to make it easier to use. You can set the color scheme as a default now.

After a surprise announcement at Microsoft's annualbuild conference, Microsoft launched Windows Terminal for Windows 10 in 2019. The default command line experience is going to be in Windows 11.
