People have been asking for ways to remove the button from the S8 since it was announced.

It was even more frustrating to use the power button since it was integrated into the power button. A new generation of users are discovering Bixby, so we are going to show you how to uninstall it again.

Why do you want to disable Bixby?

One of the most frustrating things about a dedicated Bixby button is its placement; the button is almost directly opposite the power buttons. When double-pressing the power button on a large phone, it can lead to accidental presses and the launch of the camera.

The voice control access into the power button was integrated with the removal of the dedicated Bixby button. If you hold down the power button you will be able to send commands to the phone. We're going to help you change the way you access the power control menu so you can hold down the power button.

What phone do you have?

Select the tab to the right if you have a Galaxy S8 or S8+, Note 8, or S9 or S9+. Your instructions are specific because you have a power button and a separate one for Bixby, which makes it more difficult to completely uninstall it.

The combined Power/Bixby button means that your instructions are a bit different, but also slightly easier, if you have a S20, S21, S21 FE, S22 series, or any of the best phones. To do it, you don't have to log in.

Disabling Bixby on Galaxy S20, S21, S22, and Galaxy Z phones

Maybe it's just a side effect of combining two buttons into one, or maybe it's just a matter of knowing how annoying it was not to be able to fully disabling Bixby on previous phones.

  1. Swipe down on the notifications shade.
  2. Tap the Power menu button in the quick settings panel.
  3. In the power menu, tap Side key settings.
  4. If you select Open App, tap the cog button to select an app to open with a double-press.
  5. Change the Press and hold interaction to Power off menu.

When you hold the power button, you won't bring up Bixby. We don't want to remove remants of Bixby from the home screen.

Disabling Bixby on Galaxy S8, S9, S10, Note 8, Note 9

There aren't many phones left on the first version of the OneUI, but if you're using an older phone, you'll see that the update contains a new version of Bixby. The version introduces a lot of new features, but it also removes the ability to disabling Bixby completely.

If you change the activation from a single tap to a double tap, you'll be able to use the button again. If you want to press the volume down button, that's the way to go. There is a way to do it.

Before you do anything, log into your Samsung account

It requires you to log into your account in order to enable most of the features of Bixby. When you first signed into your phone, you were prompted to do this, but if you decide to skip that step, you're going to want to sign in.

  1. Press the Bixby button or swipe right on your phone's home screen.
  2. Tap the next (arrow) button.
  3. If creating an account, enter details, agree to the terms, and verify account details through email.
  4. If prompted to "Use your biometrics", tap Not now.
  5. Tap the next (arrow) button.

  1. Review the terms and conditions and tap the next (arrow) button.
  2. If desired, teach Bixby your voice and tap the next (arrow) button.
  3. Tap the next (arrow) button for the final time.

After logging into your account, you will be able to start disabling it.

The first thing to do to remove Bixby Home access is to put it on the left-most panel.

  1. From the home screen, hold down on empty space until the menu appears.
  2. Swipe to the right to reach the left home panel.
  3. Disable Bixby Home.

How to disable the Bixby button

We're going to the important stuff now. The button can be disabled by relegating it to a double press. This is how to do it.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Advanced Features.
  3. Tap Bixby key.
  4. Select Double press to open Bixby.

This is it! While you can still use an app like bxActions (opens in new tab) to remove the button completely, at least you can now use an official way to do so. If it were stuck with a single press, it would be more likely to happen than if it were double tapped.

What if I want to remap the Bixby button to something else?

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Advanced Features.
  3. Tap Bixby key.

  1. Select Double press to open Bixby.
  2. Enable Use single press toggle.
  3. Tap inside Use single press area.

  5. Tap on the Settings button (cog icon).
  6. Select the app you want.

This is it! You can double-press the button to open the app and single-press it to open something else.
