While not alienating moderates who support the right to choose, the Republican proposal to ban abortion after 15 weeks puts some GOP candidates in a difficult spot.
Lindsey Graham introduced a bill on Tuesday that would prohibit doctors from ending a pregnant woman's life after 15 weeks. The legislation threatens to upend what had been the GOP's stand on abortion since the Supreme Court legalized the procedure in 1973.
In Pennsylvania, the Oz campaign insisted that the TV personality wouldn't want to interfere with the state's abortion laws.
The candidate is pro-life with three exceptions: life of the mother, rape, and incest.
The Graham proposal was not addressed in the statement. Yanick said that the senator would want to make sure the federal government did not interfere with the state's decisions on the topic.
The statement came a day after Oz said he would support federal legislation protecting same-sex marriage, a stance that angered some conservatives who have never warmed to the physician.
Yanick didn't respond to an Insider request for comment on how Oz would vote if he were elected this fall and the Graham bill was brought to the Senate floor by a Republican majority.
Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor immediately responded to the comment. Fetterman trumpeted his support for abortion rights at the rally.
Fetterman said that a federal abortion ban seems to interfere with a state's decision on the topic of abortion. The spin needs to stop and the bullshit needs to stop as well. The bill would have to be voted on by him. Oz needs to say if he would support the bill.
Fetterman said he wouldn't be a good senator.
