The entity that Wizards of the Coast bought was called TSR Hobbies. The subject of the newest kerfuffle is a game that had previously been published by TSR. The trademark expired in 2000. The exact same trademark was used by the original company when it was founded as a separate game publisher. TSR Games has split into two separate publishers, one headed by a man named Jayson and the other by the son and nephew of Gary Gygax. The two are using the same name.

Wizards of the Coast tried to shut down the re-publication of Star Frontiers by TSR Games before it was released. According to the injunction, Wizards is claiming that the TSR trademark is still associated with its brand by its continued sales online, and that TSR Games will irreparably damage their brand because of the current draft of Star Frontiers.

Wizards has submitted for support the steps that it is taking to promote an inclusive environment, including the 2020 statement on diversity, the Hazodee retraction, and the diverse casting on various actual play podcasts. The original cover of Star Frontiers: Alpha Dawn shows a Hazodee holding a gun in the top right, which is ironic.

Wizards has taken significant steps to create an inclusive and accepting gaming environment for all of its consumers. The Star Frontiers New Genesis product excludes trans representation in the game, and it flies in the face of these efforts.

It's not incorrect. The product is promoting bigotry in a way that seems gleeful after it was leaked last year. Black characters get lower intelligence scores, and the injunction says that trans characters are "explicitly excluded." As and when more developments emerge, we will update.
