Smith-Njigba was hurt early in the opener against Notre Dame. He warmed up before the Arkansas State game but did not play. Fleming didn't play this season because of an injury he sustained late in training camp.
Ryan Day said that Smith-Njigba was further along than he was a week ago. "We're going to expect him to play this weekend, we'll see how this week goes, but we're going to only put him in the game if we think he's ready to roll."
Day compared Fleming's situation to that of Smith-Njigba. Fleming warmed up before the game.
In Ohio State's first two games, sophomores Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. have combined for 25 catches, 448 yards and 5 touchdown passes.
"We're a different team when Jaxon's in there, there's no question, but we've had to have some other guys step up and figure a few things out." The longevity of the offense and the depth of the offense has been improved by that.
