Ukrainian officials on Tuesday said they intend to regain control of all of the country's territories that are currently under Russian control after a string of major military successes in the Kharkiv region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the West to speed up delivery of weapons in a video address on Monday night.
Emboldened by their recent successes in the Kharkiv offensive, Ukrainian leaders and their supporters want to arm the country to end the war quicker.
According to the New York Times, Ukraine has regained more territory in the last week than Russia has in the last five months.
As Ukrainian forces advance, they are resorting to psychological warfare by bombarding Russian troops with shells and flyers. The Associated Press reported that the flyers said that Russians use you as cannon fodder. Your life doesn't matter to them. This war isn't needed. It's time to surrender to the armed forces of Ukranian.
Dmytro Kuleba criticized the German government for not sending more weapons. He wrote, "Disappointing signals from Germany, while Ukraine needs Leopards and Marders now, to save them from genocide." There are no rational arguments on why these weapons can't be supplied. Berlin is not afraid of that city. Kuleba called for the supply of more heavy weapons during his meeting with Annalena.
In a lightning offensive that began last week, Ukrainian forces have regained most of the Kharkiv province in the country's northeast, in what is their most significant strategic victory on the battlefield in recent months. Russian forces were forced to flee their positions after being caught off guard by the Ukrainian army. The city of Izyum was the main supply hub for Russia's forces in the east.
The scale of Russia's recent losses has shaken its people's faith in the war. There is growing talk of peace negotiations and criticism of the military operation on the tightly controlled news media. Municipal deputies from 17 districts signed a letter demanding the resignation of Putin. There is a thin line between legal criticism of Russia's military campaign and breaking the country's censorship laws which could lead to 15 year prison sentences.
The military says it has reclaimed several towns and cities in the past day.
The Russian army is losing battalions as the Ukrainians intensify their attacks.
