The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first major league team to win a playoff spot this season when they beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-0 on Monday night.

This is the real thing.

The Dodgers celebrated their win over the Padres with a toast and distributed caps with the playoffs logo on them.

The Padres could overtake the Dodgers for the NL West title if Los Angeles finishes in a three-way tie with the Brewers andCardinals. The Brewers would win the NL Central and the Cards would win the wild-card.

The Dodgers won their 97th game of the year and moved to 54 games over.500.

They've reached the playoffs 10 times and are the third longest streak in major league history. The Braves and Dodgers had the best runs of all time.

The Dodgers have a chance to win the NL West on Tuesday.

Anderson and Ryne Nelson both pitched well for the first half of the game.

The Dodgers loaded the bases with no outs against the D-backs'Reliever in the seventh. A sacrifice fly by Trayce Thompson and a double by Bellinger gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

It was a great moment for Bellinger, who was the NL's Most Valuable Player, but hasn't reached that level of production since. He had a.200 batting average and 17 homers.

Betts hit a three-run shot in the ninth to give the Dodgers a six-run lead. He has hit 34 homers of the season.

Anderson gave up five hits, walked two and struck out two.

Nelson, who was called up to the big league last week, threw six no-hitters in his first two MLB starts, including a perfect game.

In his debut against the Padres, the young hurler gave up seven hits and struck out seven.

Nelson didn't have a problem with the Dodgers' potent lineup, as he gave up just two hits and two walks while striking out six. He retired Will Smith on a liner to center after allowing a two-out triple to Turner in the sixth.
